Lumpia
Here is a recipe that every Filipino loves. It is mainly full of meat, and you can use either beef or pork or both. This delicious recipe can be great to serve as a delightful snack.
Total Preparation and Cooking Time:
1 hr 20 mins
Servings:
20 servings
Ingredients
- 500 grams of ground pork
- 500 grams of ground beef
- One finely chopped medium onion
- One grated carrot
- ¼ cup of soy sauce
- 2 ½ teaspoons of black pepper
- 1 ½ tablespoon of garlic powder
- Two tablespoons of salt
- One package of spring roll wrappers
- More than 800 grams of cooking oil for frying
Directions
- Step 1 - Combine carrot, onion, ground pork, and ground beef in a large bowl. Make sure that everything is thoroughly mixed. Use your hands to knead the meat in the bowl if needed. Gradually blend in the salt, soy sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder until every ingredient gets evenly distributed.
- Step 2 - On a flat surface, have some wrappers laid out. Then, place around two tablespoons of filling in the middle of the wrapper. Avoid making the filling thicker than your thumb, as it will make the wrapper cook faster than the meat. Get the wrapper’s top and bottom edges, then make them fold towards the middle. Get the right and left sides and make them fold towards the center. Seal by moistening the edge of the wrapper. Do this again with the other wrappers.
- Step 3 - On a heavy skillet or deep-fryer, heat oil to 190° C or 375° F. Fry 3 to 4 lumpia at a time for around 3 to 4 minutes while turning them once. The lumpia is cooked through when the wrapper becomes golden brown and floats. You may serve it as it is or cut it in half with a dipping sauce like banana ketchup, soy sauce with lemon, or sweet and sour sauce.
